Word from the Mouth: No More Rouge! edition

Word from the Mouth: No More Rouge! edition

We made it through another wonderful week in the MFL and of course we couldn’t make everyone happy. Still had a few complainers and what do you expect nowadays (ed’s note: old man rant right away!) when everyone is privileged or feels entitled.

It's starting to get colder out, and I've already seen people all bundled up with winter hats, jackets, and gloves and I’m out there with no shirt on sweating my marbles off (ed’s note: what a man!).

Let’s hope that the rain doesn't stick around on Saturday, because who wants to play flag football in the rain and mud if we can't have fumbles?

Everyone wants the dip back in the league, but only a few players can do it properly. I say nuts to the dip and instead add laterals where everyone can do it and not just the gifted players like myself. We will never add laterals because there are too many things that could happen where someone gets hurt. (ed’s note: the whole “you can’t move once someone is running with the ball” thing might also be an issue)

Studs & Duds

We had lots of games last week and lots of players balled out and because of that some of you might think you deserve more balls. It's 1 game, settle down, do it for a few weeks before you start demanding the ball like a diva. Time to see who I'd pay and who I'd cut.

Studs

D1

- Nicolas Boucher 8 catches 124 yards and 2 TDs.

D2

- Damien Balla 4 TDs.

D3

- Kordell Jones 7 catches 123 yards and 3 TDs.

D4

- Alec De Lafontaine-Jovani 5 TD passes and no picks.

D5

- Dave Daoust 4 TD catches on 7 receptions.

Women's

- Lydia Pascal 3 passing TDs and 2 picks on defense.

Duds

D1

- Nicolas Poitevin more drops (4) than catches (3) as well as more missed tackles

(4-5) than tackles made (1).

D2

- Thunder Buddies defense for giving up 59 points with no picks, no sacks.

D3

- Kevin Kousaie for missing a safety and then the QB running 45 yards for the score.

D4

- Thomas Svoiski 20 incomplete passes and 3 picks.

D5

- Matt Bergamin for throwing a pass and making the game a forfeit. (ed’s note: this didn’t happen. It was a scorekeeper error)

Women's

- Deesses du Drapeau as a team. You had 8 picks on defense and only scored 19 points on offense and lost the game.

That's what I'd do with the players above and for the rest of you that are trying to make my list, you'll have to do better than this week or hope that everyone else does worse to have any shot at it.

Final Thoughts

I know everyone hates the CFL and don't understand some of the rules. Don't worry the rules are changing along with the field dimensions. Now let me explain what those changes are going to be. They are moving the goalpost from the front of the endzone to the back, making the endzones 15 yards instead of 20 and by doing this they essentially eliminated the rouge.

For the folks that don't know what a rouge is, it’s when you kick the ball, and it makes it into the endzone or out of the endzone you are awarded 1 point. I know most have never had to play using the rouge, but I can tell you it makes games a bit more interesting. Last week in 1 of my games we were down 1 point on the 20 and elected to try and kick it through to tie the game, we got it to the endzone and the receiving team kicked it back out which essentially gave us a new set of downs and cost them the game. I know none of you are trying that kick and going for it, but it comes down to strategy and sometimes it's better to play it safe especially when your team was 2-7 at the time.

Last fall my team won the championship on a kick with 2 plays left. Everyone needs to stop over thinking and just make the smart decision (ed’s note: don’t think, just do the smart thing, idiots!). Too many times I see teams going for it on 4th and long inside their own end, down 2 scores with plenty of time left and when they don't get it they essentially go down 3 scores and the game is all but over then.

Be smart, have fun, enjoy, and remember we are playing a game for fun, go have some and try not to kill anyone.

Word from the Mouth: We're Talking About Feelings! edition

Word from the Mouth: We're Talking About Feelings! edition

Well, we're back, or at least I am. Work is back to normal except I've been on vacation this week just relaxing and doing things around the house. Once in a while it's nice to just do nothing at all, except if you know me, I just can’t sit there and need to be doing something. So I played video games and went to the movies.

What I have noticed is that everything is a copy nowadays (ed’s note: here we go, classic Kevin old man rant!). Movies are all the same and so are video games. It gets me so mad these companies need to stop putting out crap. What happened to the good old days when you'd get a game and play that game over and over for a few years before a new one came out? I know what part of the problem is and that’s EA having most if not all the players rights.

Studs & Duds

What a week! We had lots of guys balling out and a few players really plopping the bed. Then you have the odd case where a player doesn't know the rules or thinks they can do anything. Now let's see who ended up in which section.

Studs

D1

- Joey Notaro 3 TDs, 2 picks with1 going back for 6.

D2

- Victor Davis 3 TDs and a pick on defense.

D3

- Connor Martin scored 2 TDs.

D4

- Thomas Znoj 3 TDs and 12 catches.

D5

- Alex Taschereau 5 TD passes and 2 picks on defense.

Women's

- Maya Di Fazio 4 TD passes and a pick in her first game.

Duds

D1

- Guillaume for not punting with 1:50 left with a 9-point lead, a pick was better.

D2

- Craig Owy O’Brien throwing 3 picks to 1 player while completing less than 50% of your passes gets you on my list especially when we all know you’re better than that.

D3

- Nicolas Poitevin 6 picks and only 9 completions.

D4

- Slicks for blowing an 18-point lead.

D5

- Julien Shabazz 1 of 10 for 3 yards with 3 picks thrown.

Women's

- All the defenses or lack of.

There you have it, my Studs and Duds from last week. We are close to the halfway point of the season and that means your time to make my list is dwindling away. If you want to make it before the season is done, you better step it up.

Predictions

This is where I give some team hope and in other cases where I piss them off and motivate them to bungle plops up and pull off an upset. Let’s see who I have this week, and like always my picks are in bold.

People always wonder how my rankings are done and at this point of the season it's no longer based on what I expect you to do, it’s all about winning games and who you beat and how you beat them.

Final Thoughts

I’m not sure about you, but I hope this beautiful weather sticks around for tomorrow. I wouldn't complain if it was a bit cooler, but it's mid September and who doesn't like 20+ degrees. I’m so glad to be back playing after what seems like months ago, but it’s only been 3 weeks.

I hope I can still run, now that I'm old as someone would say with a smirk on their face. People playing at Le Ber, enjoy the grass, folks playing at Arthur Therrien, I’ll see what I can do to get you on some of that green stuff, so it's not so dusty, but I can’t make any promises.

I got things to do, and this should have been in hours ago, so have a great day and remember we're playing a game, so go out, have fun, and try not to kill anyone, and don’t yell at the refs. Some of them have feelings, not me but some of them.

Word from the Mouth: The Big Dipper! edition

Word from the Mouth: The Big Dipper! edition

I’m glad that this is my last week of this crazy schedule of working 6 days a week and I'm on vacation next week. So yay to that, but we should give a bigger shout out to everyone that participated in the charity tournament last weekend.

It was fun to see, but a little disappointing as well. Everyone was crying for the dip to be brought back and we allowed it for this tournament, and I think I saw 3 or 4 total dips. I want to see every player on every catch dropping low to make a defender or two miss.

What I really wanted to see was Andrew show up, strap on his cleats, run the 40, and walk off after a blazing time. I think he might have heard about Moe running a 4.9 and was like, I can compete with that. Good thing because that wasn’t the fastest time from what I hear. It was a 4.6 by someone not playing in the league. We will be doing something like this again in the future and we'd love for it to be a bigger all-day event.

Studs and Duds

Time to find out if you impressed me or disappointed me enough to make my list.

Studs

D1

- Gabriel Boucher 3 TDs and a pick on defense.

D2

- Thomas Cote-Parent 1 Tad and 1 pick.

D3

- Antoine Bussieres 1 TD,1 pick which he took back for 6.

D4

- Alouettes defense 8 sacks and 4 picks.

D5

- Alex Taschereau 5 TD passes plus 2 sacks and a pick 6 on defense.

Women's

- Genevieve Gaudet 3 TD passes plus a pick on defense.

Duds

D1

- PO with his 6 picks.

D2

- Owie for having more completions to 1 player than the rest of the team.

D3

- Leon Holder 4 picks and less than 50% completions.

D4

- Damien Lalonde-Blondin throwing 4 picks.

D5

- Nicolas Cloutier three 6 picks.

Women's

- Angie Toporowski for throwing 4 picks.

If you expect to see your name up here then you will need to try harder and put-up better stats or no stats at all, it’s the only way to make my list. There are a few other ways, but you don’t need to know about them.

Predictions

Time to pick this week’s winners and it’s a full week of games, not like last week where we had 12 games only. Now for my picks and like always they are in bold.

Final Thoughts

I’m exhausted and glad to be on vacation as of Friday. For the first time in over a month I'll have a day off. This gives me a chance to catch up on things like sleep and will eventually get to watch a game or 2 since I won’t be sleeping.

I’m late getting this done and don’t really have anything else, so rest up since tomorrow is game day. Go out, have fun, and try not to kill anyone. See you tomorrow if you’re at de la Verendrye.

Word from the Mouth: Playing Like Gobbledygoo! edition

Word from the Mouth: Playing Like Gobbledygoo! edition

I said last week we needed it to rain and boy did it ever. Good thing Jon wasn’t playing or else his game would have been cancelled or moved like last season.

It was so bad for the 3pm game that I called Terry and was hoping to get it cancelled, but he said no that we couldn’t because there are no available slots to add these games to later in the year. I already knew that, but was hoping.

We had players praying for lighting so we couldn’t play due to it. That never happened, so they played in a lake. Ok, not a lake, but an inch and a half of water. I was glad I purchased boots and insoles, if not I would have used 3 pairs of shoes and socks instead.

This week it is calling for nice weather, so that’s a good thing. We are also playing at Le Ber this week and it’s all grass.

Studs & Duds

It's now time to see if you or any of your teammates had what it takes to make my list.

Studs

D1

- Manuel Allard-Roy 3 picks with 1 going for 6 plus a TD on offense as well.

D2

- Geoffrey Mubengaie 5 TD passes and 2 picks on defense.

D3

- Nicholas Desrochers 3 picks with 1 going back for 6 points.

D4

- Liam Martins 6 catches 75 yards and 3 TDs.

D5

- Esteban Marcotte 4 TD passes plus a pick 6 on defense.

Women's

- Leftovers for starting 2-0 as a free agent team.

Duds

D1

- Guillaume Renaud-Dumoulin for not showing up for the first game then throwing 5 picks when he did show up.

D2

- Thunder Buddies defense for giving up the score on the last play of the game.

D3

- Jean-François Lawrence threw 5 picks and only had 5 yards rushing.

D4

- Blue Badgers going 0-2 on the weekend and now sitting at 0-3 for a team I thought would compete for it all.

D5

- Robert Thomas Gallagher for only putting up 19 points with that roster.

Women's

- Tigres up 18 nothing and lose the game.

There you have it, my list after week 4 being in the books.

Time to pick my winners for this exceedingly small weekend of games and like always my picks are in bold.

Final Thoughts

With all the hype for week 1 of college football, it was a lot of crap games. I mean they built up all these big games and everyone including myself were like, yes this is going to be a wonderful day of games, then the games started.

We had Archie Manning the favorite to win the Heisman play like gobbledygoo and maybe even lost it week 1, we had Alabama losing once again and you got Jonny football say how the fear of Alabama is gone they need to buyout their coach for 69 million and hire a guy name Jon who has stated he'd love to coach in the SEC. If you don’t know which Jon I mean, Gruden not the commissioner, he's already busy on Saturdays.

We have our charity tournament this weekend and that should be exciting and fun. It’s for a worthy cause, so if you’re not playing, you can still come watch, hangout, make a donation, and watch some football where they will allow the dip. That’s all for this week, have a great rest of the week and see some of you on Saturday.

Word from the Mouth: Better Dip Right! edition

Word from the Mouth: Better Dip Right! edition

Look at that, we made it through another week on those crappy dust fields. I think next week we are back at Le Ber at least.

That is also the weekend we are doing our charity tournament where you will be allowed to dip if you’re able to and it better be done correctly or else I’m blowing it dead (ed’s note: ruining fun for charity!). That means leaning with your head or shoulder like some players do.

If we get some rain before Saturday that would help out a lot.

Studs & Duds

This is what you all want to see, who made my list. And here you have it for last week.

Final Thoughts

I can’t believe that this week the NCAA kicks off and I’m trying to figure a way to call in sick and watch the games all day. Terry I’m coming down with something and can’t make it. That should cover it.

Let’s hope that it rains before Saturday and I don’t even care if it rains on Saturday, just not between 12 and 1:30 when I play. Well, it rained a bunch overnight, and it was a lot. This should make the hay we've been playing on a bit greener and not as dusty.

That’s all I have for you this week. Good luck to all, but remember we are playing a game, so go out, have fun, and enjoy yourselves and try not to kill anyone.
