MFL Brossard: A Week of Blowouts

It was a week of absolute blowouts across the league gridiron. Every single matchup in every division on the slate ended with at least a two score differential. I am wondering if any squad could actually go toe to toe in a tight battle. Fortunately, we had one that wasn’t too out of hand, Rocket Raccoons vs. Pirates.

The offensive fireworks started early when Raccoons signal caller Eric Girotto engineered a methodical opening drive, culminating in a five yard touchdown strike to Nathan Ducharme. The Pirates answered right back as Dany Carrier found Christopher Schanck for a five yard score to tie things up. Momentum swung wildly when Tristan Faucher intercepted Girotto, setting up a twenty four yard touchdown pass from Carrier to Schanck. Carrier then extended the Pirates lead to 18–6 by launching a massive forty five yard touchdown bomb to Faucher.

Refusing to back down, Girotto executed a brilliant two minute drill just before halftime, hitting Xavier Businessman for a twenty three yard touchdown at the buzzer to cut the deficit to 18–13. The Raccoons kept pushing in the second half, taking a 20–18 lead after Girotto found Renaud-Alexis Klimov for a four yard touchdown.

With under six minutes remaining, the Pirates passing attack rose to the occasion. Carrier threw a gorgeous thirty two yard touchdown pass to Schanck to recapture a 24–20 lead. The Raccoons drove deep into Pirates territory in the final minute, but Faucher stepped up with his second clutch interception of the match to thwart the comeback. With the Raccoons forced to take risks as time expired, Carrier put the exclamation point on the evening by hitting Guillaume Trudel for a forty yard touchdown, cementing a thrilling 30–20 victory for the Pirates.

Standout of the Week: Simon Provencher

Simon Provencher put together an absolute masterclass over his two game stretch, cementing his status as the league's most lethal weapon this week. Provencher was unstoppable in the passing game, hauling in a staggering fourteen receptions across both contests.

He was a focal point of the offense, racking up 104 receiving yards in his first outing and backing it up with a ninety seven yard performance in his second matchup. Provencher was huge with over 200 yards receiving on the day, showcasing elite level of skill on the day.

He was also maximum efficiency in the red zone, accounting for five total receiving touchdowns and a one point conversion. To round out an elite double duty showcase, Provencher flashed his defensive instincts by recording three tackles and snagging a pair of crucial interceptions, single handedly changing the dynamic of the weekend.

Challenge to everyone who lost this weekend: be better next week.

Week 6! (Brossard) In depressing matter, this week brought back to back days of terrible weather and thundering matches.

Div 1

2nd half struggle: In an extremely close first half, with both teams rolling ending the half 24-20, the wheels broke off for Hangover, coming to a blazing halt scoring zero points in the second half. New schools defense helped their offense pull away, in the second half earning themselves their 3rd win of the season, finally breaking even with their record, after a rough start to their season with 3 straight losses, they've been surging forward, on a 3 game win streak through their last 3 games.

Mo's dream world: After an even first half between, Southsiders and Red "not" Skins, Mohammed Lamari took over the second half scoring twice and tagged on a extra point off a one point convert. Mo sparked Southsiders, 2nd half takeover being a driving force for their 38-18 win over Red "not" Skins.

Div 2

Muddy Mayhem: During heavy rainfall Pirates and BBL Bandits carried through with their match, playing in a muddy wet field, noticably becoming much more stained, with players white socks or clothing becoming unrecognizable. Through the tough weather, and uncoordinated defense, the Pirates gained their momentum back winning 32-12 and started developing a 2 game win streak. (Quick note Aiden Tull was amazing this game)

Revenge!: After Les Perruches fairytale win over Kraken last week, Kraken came for revenge winning 41-25. Krakens' young talent really shone this week having multiple deep balls, and speed were just too much for Perruches to keep up with. Kraken seem unstoppable barely losing this season, ravaging the competition and seeming like they could go toe to toe with a (Brossard) div 1 team.

Div 3

Playoff picture: (just for editor to see, yes bubbles I know there has been a lot of playoff segments but DAMN there's been too many forfeits or blowouts due to weather and not much to right about. And hi by the way hope you're doing well and say hi to the family for me) As we near the final innings of the season, superpowers have emerged and I hate to say it, but the playoff spots are most likely already booked and what we see now (top 4 seeds if you don't know) will likely be the teams who make the playoffs. It's not impossible for teams out of the picture not to make it but some of the carvings are already set in stone. Good luck to all teams participating and never give up!

Week 5! This week was a spectacular week of games, but gloomy weather.

Div 1

OG Joey: Joey Taylor made a guest appearance in Brossard for Red "not" Skins this week. This game was filled with highlight plays and spectacular catches still imbedded into my mind. Although the Hangover fought hard their record only worsens this week as Red "not" Skins won 36-24. Remarkably, if I had a dime every time Riley Pincombe broke multiple tackles this game and took it to the house I'd have two dimes. It's not a lot but it's odd it happened twice.

Div 2

BELIEVE!: Les Perruches picked up their first win of the season in a thriller with kraken going to 26-25. Jonathan Menard had a beautiful ball to Justin Provencher who came down with a tough catch through contact, leaving Perruches in a pickle. Stephen Harripersaud then drove the field and threw to Sanketh Chundri to tie the game, and found Kevin St Pierre on a 1pt convert to take the lead with 1:59 left in the game. Joe Menard found a way to drive to the red zone and almost punched it in, but Sanketh Chundri was the true hero and batted it down to earn Perruches first win the season.

Div 3

Peak at the playoffs?: The Swamp Kings and Colts 45s shook Brossard with this ABSOLUTE CLASSIC. This game was filled with high spirits, yelling (of excitement) and INSANE plays. Each half ended in high excilarating spirits, with the end of the first half being Gabriel Aubé throwing a 39 yard bomb downfield to Alexandre Bougie on the last play giving Swamp Kings light going into the second half 13-12. The Swamp Kings eventually took back the lead, but the play that sticks with me in this game is, the last play of the second half on a double QB where Wr Jason Yansa delivers a 35 yard Hail Mary to Benjamin Carlisle to send the game to overtime. On the first play of OT QB1 Thomas Pépin stepped up delivering the dagger to Benjamin Carlisle ending the game 26-25. This match was the battle of the two favorites to win div 3 this season and they delivered with this game. The Colts 45s remain undefeated 5-0 continuing their perfect record and spoiling the Swamp Kings also perfect record to 4-1.

If you are looking for a masterclass in gridiron drama, look no further than the latest Brossard league showdown between New School & Rocket Raccoons. From the opening possession, the Rocket Raccoons' aerial attack looked entirely dialed in. Shawn Alexandre captained a clinical opening sequence, connecting with Eric Girotto for a 22 yard chunk play before capping off the drive with a 1 yard touchdown flip to Xavier Businessman for an early 7-0 advantage. New School answered immediately when Nicolas Blais found Mathieu Kieljan on a spectacular 32 yard touchdown strike to knot the score.

The first half quickly transformed into a ruthless, punch for punch heavyweight fight. Alexandre found Tristan Girotto for a 12 yard score, but Blais responded in kind by hitting Samuel Emilio Pelchat in the end zone to pull even at 14-14. Just before the halftime whistle, Alexandre took the game into his own hands, breaking free for consecutive double digit runs before dropping a 5 yard touchdown pass to Victor Provencher with zero seconds on the clock, giving the Raccoons a 20-14 lead at the break.

The intensity only escalated in the second half. New School opened the frame with a grueling, 7 minute drive that culminated in a 4 yard touchdown pass from to Kieljan, taking a slim 21-20 lead. Undeterred, Alexandre responded by slicing through the secondary and finding Tristan Girotto for a 6 yard touchdown, swinging the pendulum back to the Raccoons at 26-21.

With the game on the line in the final minutes, New School leaned on their clutch playmakers. On a critical fourth down gamble, Blais connected with Pelchat to keep the chains moving. Moments later, with just 1:26 left on the clock, Blais fired a precise 3-yard strike to Cory Larocque to snatch a 27-26 lead to complete another 7 minute drive. The Raccoons had one final opportunity to play hero, but New School defender William Lemay blew up the drive with a massive sack, ultimately forcing a turnover on downs as time expired to seal a classic victory.

Standout of the Week

Zachary Gagnon-Blais put on an absolute clinic this week, cementing his status as the undisputed Standout of the Week with an elite two way performance. Gagnon-Blais was a model of consistency and efficiency on the offensive side of the ball, securing 4 receptions for 44 yards and hauling in a crucial touchdown to keep his team firmly in the driver's seat.

It was his defensive masterclass that completely stole the show. Anchoring the defense, he displayed elite ball hawking instincts to record a staggering 3 interceptions. Routinely reading the opposing quarterback like an open book, he completely closed down his side of the field. It was a flawless, impact heavy showcase that proved his immense value on both sides of the ball.

For fans of pure sports drama, the clash between New School and the Red "Not" Skins was a masterpiece. In a game defined by major momentum swings, critical defensive stands, and strong quarterback play, no matter your preference, this game had it all.

From the opening kickoff, New School’s aerial assault looked lethal. Quarterback Scott Watson wasted no time, airing out a massive 43 yard pass to Samuel Pelchat on his second play from scrimmage before finding Pelchat again moments later for a 4 yard touchdown. After a quick 1 point conversion to Mathieu Kieljan, New School held an early 7-0 lead.

The Skins responded with precision. Quarterback Danny Aylward settled into a rhythm, engineering an answer that culminated in a 7 yard touchdown strike to Craig Browning. A successful conversion to Riley Pincombe locked the score at 7-7.

The rest of the first half, however, belonged to Watson and Pelchat. Watson found Pelchat again for a spectacular 22 yard touchdown strike. Just before the halftime whistle, Watson orchestrated another drive, capping it off with a 7 yard touchdown toss to Nicolas Hurtubise to build a 19-7 advantage at the break.

The second half, however, saw the Red "Not" Skins storm back with a vengeance. Aylward sliced through the secondary, connecting with Browning for chunk plays before hitting Pincombe for a 1 yard score. After the Skins' defense forced a crucial turnover on downs, Aylward dropped a dime to Satchel Carreiro for a 10 yard touchdown, completely erasing the deficit to take a 20-19 lead.

The game reached a fever pitch when Pincombe made a brilliant defensive interception on Watson. Capitalizing on the turnover, Aylward launched a spectacular 36 yard touchdown bomb back to Pincombe, pushing the Skins ahead 26-19.

Refusing to blink, Watson answered by feeding Pelchat for gains of 11, 23, and eventually a 2-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 26-25 but weren’t able to convert the conversion.

With under two minutes remaining, New School’s defense stepped up, forcing a massive turnover on downs to give Watson one final shot with 1:33 left on the clock. Watson went to work with ice in his veins, hitting Olivier Filippelli, JC Ferland, and Remy Nguyen to march down the field. With no time left on the clock, Watson unleashed a final strike to Pelchat, who hauled in the 9 yard game winning touchdown to seal an unforgettable 31-26 victory.

Standout of the Week

Samuel Pelchat put on an absolute clinic for New School, cementing his status as the undisputed Standout of the Week. Serving as the ultimate weapon in the passing game, Pelchat completely shredded the defense by hauling in a staggering 10 receptions for 163 yards.

He was an unstoppable force in the red zone, accounting for 4 receiving touchdowns, including the dramatic, game winning score as time expired. To round out a truly heroic performance, Pelchat also chipped in on the defensive side of the ball, recording 3 tackles to lock down the victory.
